بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
السلام عليکم ورحمةالله وبرکاته

Hello and welcome to Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDSCOUNCIL)’s website.

According to Sidhu J. S (2010) Historical Dictionary of Brunei Darussalam (Second Edition). Scarecrow Press, United Kingdom:
The idea to form the BDAC was first mooted at a meeting of the Council of Women of Negara Brunei Darussalam on 3 October 1997 where a subcommittee on HIV/AIDS was formed. Further, on 16 November 1998, a pro tem committee of the BDAC was created and eventually registered on 22 July 2000.
*Note: BDAC is Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council former acronym.

At that time, few of our concern Brunei individuals initiated to form a civil society or a non-government organisation (NGO) to address our community in HIV & AIDS work, and BDAIDSCOUNCIL was formed.

With the likes of programs and initiatives like HIV Awareness Programme for Peers & Youth (HAPPY) which has reached to more than 5000 young people on reproductive health education; Life Skills Training (LESTARI) which has produced over 700 alumni possessing life skills and knowledge; our youth wing, Penyinar, which has been exceptional in their support on peer education and peer support; our social media outreach, and, other advocacy and networking with stakeholders in HIV & AIDS, be it locally or regionally.

We hope, with the addition of this website as a one stop resource centre for people to look up information on HIV & AIDS in our local context, can help our society to be more aware and equipped with the basic knowled on HIV & AIDS. Of course, we advise people to seek professional help, where it is required.

Any feedback is appreciated on this website to make it better and we would like to thank Nuara Group in helping to set up this website.

Spread the love, not HIV!

- Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, President of Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council
